How to Knit I-Cord Edging

Neat & Sturdy Selvedge Technique

How to Knit: I-Cord Edging | Easy Knitting Tutorial for a Built-In I-Cord Edge

This quick knitting lesson shows you how to create a 3-stitch I-cord on the selvedges of your projects. An I-cord is basically a very narrow tube, so it makes a chunky and stable edging technique.

It is suitable for beginners to try, and all you have to do to add it to an existing pattern is to cast an extra 6 stitches onto the needles when you begin the project. So those 6 stitches (3 either side) become the I-cord edge stitches, and in the centre of those you just follow your normal pattern.

You can have any type of stitch in between the I-cord edges, but just bear in mind that the I-cord won't be as obvious either side of stockinette stitch because the I-cord itself is also made up of stockinette stitches - so it blends in a bit more. Also note that I-cord doesn't have much stretch.  I hope this video is helpful to you, and thanks very much for watching!
