Herringbone Stitch Pattern

An Impressive Zigzag Texture

The herringbone pattern is thick, cosy and warm, and the pattern itself is very simple... a 2-row repeat using just 2 different techniques.

However, I probably wouldn't recommend this pattern for beginners, and the reason is that the resulting knit fabric is very dense due to every other stitch effectively being worked twice.

This makes the stitches quite tight and a bit of a challenge to knit.

For anyone who wants to try this pattern, I would strongly recommend using knitting needles at least a couple of sizes larger than the size suggested on your yarn label.

This just helps to loosen the stitches a little.

The Pattern:

Cast on an even number of stitches.

Row 1 (& every odd-numbered row): *k2tog tbl (dropping only 1 stitch from the needle)

Repeat from * until you have 1 stitch remaining, then knit 1

Row 2 (& every even-numbered row): *p2tog (dropping only 1 stitch from the needle)

Repeat from * until you have 1 stitch remaining, then purl 1

It's a lot easier to explain this pattern with a video, so if you're stuck please take a look at my video tutorial:
