Basketweave Stitch Pattern
A Beginner-Friendly Checkerboard Design
This knitted basketweave texture is made up of only knit and purl stitches, and so is an ideal pattern for beginner knitters to incorporate into projects.
You will first need to cast on a multiple of 8 stitches, plus 5.
E.g. 2 x 8 = 16, and 16 + 5 = 21 stitches.
For the demo, this is the number of stitches I cast on. If you don't add on 5, then the pattern will not be symmetrical.
Row 1: k
Row 2: k5, *p3, k5
Repeat from * to the end of the row.
Row 3: p5, *k3, p5
Repeat from * to the end of the row.
Row 4: k5, *p3, k5
Repeat from * to the end of the row.
Row 5: k
Row 6: k1, p3, *k5, p3
Repeat from * until there's 1 stitch left, then k1
Row 7: p1, k3, *p5, k3
Repeat from * until there's 1 stitch left, then p1
Row 8: k1, p3, *k5, p3
Repeat from * until there's 1 stitch left, then k1
Where k = knit stitches and p = purl stitches.
And then you repeat that pattern as many times as you want :)
