However, the downside of this stitch in comparison to regular brioche stitch, is that the addition of a second colour does make it more complicated to achieve. I would therefore not recommend this one for a knitting newbie.

The techniques involved in the pattern are simple enough; yarn overs, p2togs and k2togs are as complicated as it gets, but getting everything in the right order can be a bit tricky!

Note: You must do this stitch on either circular needles or double-pointed needles, because you will need to slide your stitches from one end of the needles to the other.

The pattern is as follows:

First, name your yarn colours 'Colour 1' and 'Colour 2'.

Cast on an odd number of stitches (I cast on 17) in Colour 1.

The first row is a 'setup row' which is not repeated again for the rest of the pattern. This is the point where you add in the second colour.

Setup row (in Colour 2): k1 *sl st p-wise, yo, k1

Repeat from * to end of row.

(You then slide the stitches to the other end of the needle.)

Then there is the main 4-row pattern, which you repeat over and over until you complete your knitting project:

Row 1 (Colour 1): sl st p-wise, p2tog *sl st p-wise, yo, p2tog

Repeat from * to last stitch, then sl st p-wise

Row 2 (Colour 2): p1 *sl st p-wise, yo, p2tog

Repeat from * until there are 2 stitches left, then sl st p-wise, yo, p1

(Slide stitches to the other end of the needle)

Row 3 (Colour 1): sl st p-wise (wyib), k2tog *sl st p-wise, yo, k2tog

Repeat from * to last stitch, then sl st p-wise (wyib)

Row 4 (Colour 2): k1 *sl st p-wise, yo, k2tog

Repeat from * until there are 2 stitches left, then sl st p-wise, yo, k1

(Slide stitches to the other end of the needle)

Key:

k = knit, p = purl, k2tog = knit 2 together, p2tog = purl 2 together

yo = yarn over, sl st p-wise = slip stitch purlwise, wyib = with yarn in back

I also add a tip at the end of the video about how to make it easier to bind off or to switch from brioche to another stitch.

It can be confusing to bind off straight from brioche, because of the 'crossed' stitches on the needles. Therefore, you can evenly space those stitches again by choosing one of the yarn colours and doing the following for 1 row:

*kfb, k2tog

Repeat from * until the last stitch, then k1

That's all you have to do!
