Throw Pillow Review
In early 2017, I was browsing the Society6 website when up popped a 20% discount offer with free worldwide shipping, which is just too darn difficult to resist and so I bought a 16" x 16" throw pillow (with the pillow insert included).
The print I chose was my 'Blue Hydrangeas' photo because a) it's one of my favourites, b) it has a large area of solid black which is a good printing test and c) ordering one of my own designs gets me even more money off, so the total cost was only about $18, woo!

The pillow package arrived as a vacuum-packed pillow insert and the pillow sleeve inside the usual branded plastic bag. All simple and efficient.
In terms of functionality, all is good; the zipper works smoothly and closes completely, the pillow fits, and it's a perfect size for the chair I want it to go on.
There are no imperfections on the print, and most importantly of all, the black areas of the print are a solid black. No faded areas; just exactly what I was expecting.
Since I sell my own designs on Society 6, it's always a relief when the products are nice quality!
You can choose from 4 different sizes of throw pillow on Society6, and I went for the smallest size which is a decent size for a chair or small sofa.
The largest size of pillow, on the other hand, would be big enough for a floor cushion and would be a great for kid's rooms and students' uni rooms in particular. Cheap seating ftw!
The sizes available (at the time of writing this) are as follows:
- 16" x 16" $22 (with pillow insert = $29)
- 18" x 18" $25 (with pillow insert = $ 32)
- 20" x 20" $30 (with pillow insert = $37)
- 24" x 24" $34 (with pillow insert = $41)
In these photos you can see a close-up view of the woven material of the pillow cover, the zip opening, and the Society6 tag.
The fabric is 100% spun polyester poplin, which is slightly textured and has a quality thickness to it; it's not thin and flimsy at all, and seems like it's going to hard wearing (I hope!)
The zip is concealed, so you only see the cream coloured pull tab and nothing else which gives it a neat and tidy finish.
And another feature is that the design you choose will be printed on both the front and back of the pillow. I'm always so disappointed when this isn't the case and you just get a plain coloured back!
Since I live in a rented property, there are limited ways to inject a bit of personality into my decor (especially since I can't even put a single nail in the wall to hang art up :o), so I rely on things like rugs, fresh flowers, pretty vases, various table ornaments, and pillows.
And Society6 helps with a couple of those!
I do appreciate the fact that I can choose from such a variety of high quality art, and then get them printed on a variety of high quality products. I've ordered from other print-on-demand shops in the past and often at least one of those things is missing; either the products are good but you've got to wade through a lot of bland/generic text slogans to find the good designs, or the art is great but the product quality isn't up to scratch.
Anyway, my conclusion is that Society6 is my favourite print-on-demand website since I've never been disappointed with what I've bought from them...and the pillows are no exception.
